The Benapole Custom House was open on Saturday, a public holiday in the Corona risk only for revenue. Although import and export trade between the two countries was active, but the presence of traders was very low.
Some goods have been delivered from Benapole port. However, such an expected result did not come in the collection of revenue.
Customs sources said Customs Commissioner Md Azizur Rahman directed to Benapole Customs House and land port to open even during the official holiday to increase the government’s revenue at June closing.
Customs officials have kept the office open all day working on a few bills of entry in their office. The customs assessment and physical inspection of the goods at the customs house have been minimal.
Although a small amount of goods was delivered from the port, But 218 trucks of goods were imported from India. 142 trucks of goods have been exported to India through this port.
The National Board of Revenue has set a target of Tk 5,600 crore for the 2020-21 financial year, for the Benapole Customs House. Benapole Customs House has collected revenue of Tk 4,200 crore till Saturday this year.The prevalence rate was 56%.
Additional Commissioner of Benapole Customs Dr. Neyamul Islam said, Custom and port have been kept open even on public holidays in the interest of revenue. The presence of traders was very low. However, the import-export trade between the two countries was as expected. In the interest of the country, customs and ports have been kept open even on holidays.
Benapole Custom House Commissioner Md. Azizur Rahman said, Even at the risk of corona, custom house and port have been kept open on public holiday only to increase revenue. Today, from Saturday morning to afternoon, the collection of revenue TK.2 crore 30 lakh. 218 trucks of goods were imported and 142 trucks of goods were exported.
