Benapole, the largest land custom house in the country, has enjoyed a robust growth in its revenue collection in 2020-21 fiscal. During the Corona period, Customs House has achieved the highest growth of 57.50 percent as compared to the previous period.
Despite the revised target of Tk 6,100 crore in the 2020-21 financial year, Benapole Custom House earned Tk 4,148.27 crore at the end of the fiscal year which is 1 thousand 951.73 crore less than the target.
However, Benapole Custom House has earned the highest revenue this year as compared to the last financial year.
Benapole Custom House sources said, Benapole Custom House, the country’s largest land custom house revenue collection target for the current financial year, has been set at Tk 6,500 crore. Which is more than TK 500 crore from 2020-21 financial year.
However, like other fiscal years, the revenue collection target is lagging behind.
Benapole Custom House has been successful in growth compared to previous years. This is the highest growth year in the fiscal year 2020-21 compared to the last few years.
However, traders say that if equality is increased in Benapole port, it is not a matter of implementing the revenue collection target.
In the last 2019-2021, the revenue collection target was 5 thousand 563.59 crore. In contrast, the revenue collection was Tk 2,635.77 crore. In that year, the revenue income has decreased Tk 2,927.82 crore.
However, this year the revenue has been collected more than 1 thousand 512.50 crore compared to last year.
Matiar Rahman, Director, India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries, said, On the other side of Benapole, Indian Kalitala parking in Petrapole port, trucks carrying goods were stuck day after day and large extortion of money were collected.
As a result, it took 20/25 days for a truck to reach Bangladesh. Importers had to pay the large amount of extortion. At present, imports by rail through Benapole port have increased at a huge rate. Railway infrastructure development has already started. Imports will increase by the end of the railway development work.
Benapole C&F Agents Association President Mofizur Rahman Sazon said, About 80 per cent of the raw materials of industries and garments industries are imported through Benapole land port. Benapole port does not have capacity. The activities of the port are going on due to various mismanagement.Imports and exports activities were closed for a long time due to corona pandemic.If the port infrastructure will be developed, it is possible to collect double amount of revenue.
Benapole Customs Commissioner Md. Azizur Rahman said, In the difficult times of the Corona pandemic, when everything was stagnant, that challenge has resulted in increased revenue compared to last year.
