The ruling party Awami League’s Benapole Municipality unit joint-secretary Mahtabuddin has been untraced since 2:00 am on June 24. Miscreants abducted the AL leader from Paturia Ferryghat on his way to Benapole on the night when he was coming from Dhaka by a night coach of Shohagh Paribahan, said Shahjalal Sohel, eldest son of the leader.
Shahjalal Sohel told journalists that his father was abducted by a number of miscreants from Paturia Ferryghat as he stepped down from the bus for urinal purposes.
The family, on June 25, held a press conference at
Benapole land port demanding immediate rescuing of their guardian in presence of Sirajul Haque Manju, president, Sharsha upazila unit Awami League and also chairman of the local upazila council, Nuruzzaman, general secretary, Ahmad Ali, president, Benapole Municipality unit AL and Nasir Uddin, general secretary.
In the press conference, Sadia Afrin Rima, daughter of the victim told that her father was abducted by miscreants, who introduced themselves as DB men. But no branch of law enforcement agencies admitted the responsibility.’ Please rescue my father immediately,’ she urged the law enforcement agency men. She also appealed to the prime minister for her steps in this regard.
Shahjalal Sohel lodged a general diary with Shibalaya police station in Manikgonj district in this regard, she informed.
Shahidul Islam Milon, president, Jessore district unit Awami League, told the New Nation that the AL leader was kidnapped by some men who introduced themselves as DB men. But the detective branch rejected the accusation. ‘He could be abducted by miscreants for ransom,’ Milon added.
The victim is a resident of Benapole land port and also a businessman. He went to Dhaka for business purposes on Saturday and boarded in night coach of Shohagh Paribahan at around 9:15 pm on Tuesday. But the miscreants kidnapped him on the way without any reason, said the victim’s son.
The information of the abduction of the leader made the ruling party men of Benapole tense, said Nuruzzaman, general secretary, Sharsha upazla unit Awami League.
Earlier, Tariqul Islam Tuhin, panel mayor, Benapole Municipality and also former president, Sharsha upazila unit Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the ruling party has been missing since March 7, 2013.
