The 17th Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) has selected 23 projects for presentation at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 18 to 20, 2019. Bangladeshi project Belonging is the first documentary that has been selected at the forum from Bangladesh. Previously, the fiction project Made in Bangladesh by Rubaiyat Hossain participated in the same platform in 2017.
The projects making this year’s short-list, selected from more than 350 submissions, hail from 10 countries and territories across the region, including Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines and South Korea. They come from established directors of popular mainstream cinema, veteran independent filmmakers and young talent, all of whom seeking funding and industry partners.
Belonging is directed by Abid Hossian Khan which has been awarded the Bangladesh Govt Film Fund for documentary in 2018-19 session. Abid Hossain Khan examines the tragedy of the Muslim-majority Rohingya people in Belonging.
