Belgium lauds B’desh’s democratic practices

The non-resident ambassador of Belgium to Bangladesh Pierre Vaesen on Tuesday called on Foreign Miniser A H Mahmud Ali at the latter’s office here. During the meeting, they discussed about various bilateral and multilateral issues including trade and investment between the two countries and resolving problems of getting Belgian visa from Bangladesh.
When the visa issue came up discussion, the ambassador assured the foreign minister of taking pragmatic steps to solve long standing problems of getting Belgium visa from Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi citizens have to collect Belgian visa from New Delhi, India since Belgium has no embassy office in Dhaka. Responding to a query, the minister informed the Ambassador that the government has a plan to shift the garment industries to “Garment Palli (village)” being constructed in Munshiganj near Dhaka.
The minister said the present government has been working relentlessly for further strengthening relations with different countries under various regional and sub-regional alliances. In the meeting, the Belgian Ambassador lauded Bangladesh for its democratic practices, constructive role of civil society members and socio-economic development. The foreign minister thanked the Belgian government for playing an important role for socio-economic development of Bangladesh and further strengthening relations between the two countries.
