Begum Rokeya realised the absolute essence of female education for renaissance of the women and their socio-economic and political empowerment, speakers at a discussion said. They also mentioned that the vision, philosophy, ideals, thoughts and conscience of Rokeya still playing vital role in making policy for time befitting women education and equal women rights in the present era of science and technology.
Begum Rokeya Forum, Rangpur (BRFR) organised the discussion yesterday in observance of Rokeya Day-2016 at Public Library auditorium in Rangpur to mark the 136th birth and 84th death anniversaries of the unforgettable great woman.
With assistance of RDRS Bangladesh, BRFR also organised programmes, including distribution of Rokeya Medal among successful women and prizes among winners of different competitions and colourful cultural function to mark the day.
Director (Development Programme) of RDRS Bangladesh attended the discussion as the guest of honour with President of BRFR and noted educationist Marhamatun Nesa in the chair.
Senior Vice-President of BRFR Advocate MA Basher Tipu and its General Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman also spoke, among others. Monjushree Saha handed over Rokeya Medals to Ferdousi Rahman Beauty for her extra ordinary contribution in the fields of social service, education, literature and culture and ‘Ratnagarbha’ mother Hasmat Ara Khanom Jolly. Noted literary personalities Dr Nasima Akhter and Zinnat Ara narrated about the success stories of Rokeya Medal recipients Ferdousi Rahman Beauty and Hasmat Ara Khanom Jolly in the discussion moderated by poet Zahid Hossain.
The speakers discussed about the life, unparalleled deeds, literary works, struggles and contribution of Rokeya to the society and termed her as pioneer of women renaissance in the subcontinent.
Monjushree Saha said that the current discriminatory social attitude, repression, and violence against women could be prevented through properly establishing the ideals and moral courage and teachings of Rokeya in the society.
Marhamatun Nesa recalled the outstanding conscience of Rokeya, who correctly realised the necessity of female education for renaissance of the women to establish their equal rights at all spheres in the society.
