The price of the coarse rice has fallen by 19 percent in the retail markets, while the finer varieties by 8.5 percent, which is a record in last five years.
The country has been producing surplus rice in the recent years that has made contribution to the fall of price, analysis said.
BR-11 and swarna were selling at Tk 22 to 24 on Friday compared with Tk 28 to 29 last week. Brridhan-28 was selling at Tk 35 to 36 per kg, down from Tk 40 to 42, Brridhan-29 (haski) at Tk 38, down from 42, paijam and kajol lata at Tk 34, down from Tk 37 to 38.
Miniket was selling at Tk 43 to 45 compared with Tk 47 to 48 last week. Similarly najirshail was selling at Tk 45-46, marking fall by Tk three to four per kg at Babu Bazar, Badamtoli, Jatrabari, Kochukhet and Mohammadpur on Friday.
Meat and chicken price have increased, while beef was selling at Tk 360 per kg, red meat at Tk 550, the boiler at Tk 170 to 175 and the local fowl at Tk 550 to 640 per kg based on size. But beef and red meat price was Tk 300 to 320 per kg and at Tk 400-450 respectively before the ongoing blockade and hartal.
Pigeon was selling at Tk 180 to 210 a pair and bird quyel at Tk 200 four pieces. The egg (chicken) was selling at Tk 28 per hali (4 pieces) and egg (duck) at Tk 40 to Tk 44.
Barbal and the scorpion fish were selling at Tk 700 to Tk 800 per kilo each, ruhit at Tk 280 to 450, carp at Tk 230 to Tk 400, lobster at Tk 1,000 to 1,200, pangas at Tk 170 to 200, tilapia at Tk 180 to Tk 230, mola for Tk 250, climbing fish at Tk 250 to 600, lata at Tk 200 to Tk 300, tatkini at Tk 230 to Tk 250, sheat fish at
Tk 300 to Tk 500, small fry fish for Tk 250 and butter fish at Tk 660 to Tk 700. Sea fishes Marcel at Tk250 to 270, Surma fish at Tk 280 to 340 and hilsha medium size at Tk 600 to 800. Besides, the price of different kinds of dry fish also increased by about Tk 20 to 50 per kg.
Onion and garlic price decreased in the city markets at the weekend on Friday. The supply of vegetables is almost normal in the markets despite hartal, but price remained unchanged.
Horse radish was selling at Tk 60 to 80 per kg in the weekend in city markets. Of others vegetables, balsam apple was selling at Tk 60 to 70 per kg, green chilli at Tk 60 to 70, bean at Tk 40 to 50, brinjal at Tk 45 to 50, snake gourd at Tk 50, parbal at Tk 50, bitter gourd at Tk 50 to 60, french at Tk 60 to 70, okra Tk 60, cucumber at Tk 30 to 35, tomato at Tk 25, potato at Tk 10 to 14, carrot at Tk25 to 30, cauliflower at Tk 20 to 30, cabbage at Tk 20 per piece, teasel gourd at Tk 60, zucchini at Tk 50 to 60, gourd at Tk40 to 60 piece based on size and coriander leaves at Tk 100 per kg.
The price of different varieties of red lentil also rose by Tk four per kg and it was selling between Tk 80 and Tk 135. Mash sells at Tk 84, gram at Tk 70 and green gram at Tk 120.
The price of bottled soybean oil (five liters) remained unchanged and it was selling at Tk 490-Tk 510 in the city’s kitchen markets. The unpacked soybean oil was retailing at Tk 85 to 95 per litre.
Local onion were selling at Tk 35 to 40 per kg, imported onion at Tk333, imported garlic was selling at Tk 90 to 100 per kg and local one at Tk 50 to 60. Imported ginger was selling at Tk 110 to 130, local produce at Tk 80 to Tk 90 only.
