AL leaders ask party men to foil hartal

Leaders of ruling Awami League claimed that people of the country have rejected the countrywide hartal enforced by BNP led 20-party alliance.
The AL leaders also threatened that BNP will have to face dire consequence, if it follows the path of anarchy and terrorism.
They made the remarks from anti-hartal rally, procession in Bangabandhu Avenue, other parts of the city on Monday.
Targeting at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya said “The people do not respond to your call as you killed innocent people.”
The Dhaka Metropolitan Awami League general secretary also claimed that BNP, its alliance failed to attract people of the country to Monday’s hartal.
Asserting that the people have rejected the hartal, AL Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, while addressing a rally in front of National Press Club, ordered the party men to beat the picketers. He further said that the activists of BNP and its alliance would not be allowed to come out to streets, if they continue destructive activities in the name of hartal.
Citing that democratic environment is needed for fair politics, Food Minister Advocate Kamrul Islam said Khaleda and her son Tarique Rahman have to be ousted from the politics to do this.
Threatening the BNP, Kamrul also issuede caution that their consequences will be dire if the BNP follows the path of terrorism. “BNP’s movement means terrorism and militancy. If BNP does it, the government will not spare them,” said the minister.
“BNP is not a political party. It is a party of demons. Resistance will be build across the country against this party,” Kamrul Islam claimed.
The leaders and activists of different wings of AL gathered at Bangabandhu Avenue from different areas of the city with processions. A procession of AL leaders and activists paraded Gulistan, Zero point and Paltan.
In another meeting, AL presidium member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim has said that the black hands of those who would dare to kill people in their bid to create anarchy in the name of hartal should be broken.
“Begum Khaleda Zia, your black hands would be broken if you don’t refrain from killing people in your bid to create anarchy in the name of hartal. Your acts of terrorism in the name of hartal would no more be tolerated,” he said pointing at BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Mohammad Nasim said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at Mohanagar Natyamancha at Gulistan Square in the capital yesterday. Bangladesh Krishak League (BKL) organised the discussion in observance of the Great Victory Day with its president Motahar Hossain Mollah in the chair.
