BEA for cut in non-dev expenditure in budget

The speakers at a pre-budget press conference in the city on Sunday stressed the need for capacity building for budget implementation.
They also suggested that the government should reduce non-development expenditure and explore new sources of revenue earnings.
Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) organised the conference to place recommendations for the upcoming national budget of the 2017-18 fiscal year.
The apex economic body suggested developing population into human resources, fast reduction of inequality, equal division of resources, preservation of farmland, attaining sustainable development with climate change adaptation and attaching people with the ultimate development process of the country.
Chairman of BEA Professor Dr Ashraf Uddin Chowdhury, BEA former Chairman Professor Dr Abul Barkat, General Secretarty Dr Jamal Uddin Ahmad, Co-chairman Tofajjal Hossain Miah and Joint Secretary Sayeda Nazma Papry spoke on the occasion.
Dr Barkat recommended inclusion of people in the process of development, prioritising agriculture and farmers with higher allocation of resources than other sectors and more allocation in research and development sectors.
