Outgoing Canadian High Commissioner in Dhaka Benoit-Pierre Laramee lauded Bangladesh for impressive progress in women empowerment.
Bangladesh has made stunning progress in socio-economic sector especially in women empowerment following various pragmatic steps taken by the government in this regard, he said.
The envoy made the observations on Sunday as he paid a farewell call on Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at the latter’s office in the city.
Mentioning Bangladesh’s progress in economic sector, he said the country has been progressing fast towards becoming the middle-income country.
“The country’s export income will increase further since a number of international standard garment industries have been set up in the country during the last couple of years,” he added.
The Canadian envoy said the foreign buyers would be encouraged further to buy more garment products from Bangladesh and that would help increase the country’s export income.
During the meeting, they discussed various issues of bilateral interest especially on the upcoming 63rd CPA conference to be held in Dhaka this year.
He expressed the hope that a delegation from Canadian parliament would join the conference since they are holding various important positions in the CPA executive body.
Referring to women empowerment, the speaker said their economic and social empowerment have been playing a crucial role to prevent repression on women.
