‘BD’s constitution written in blood of martyrs’

On November 4, 1972, the Constitution of Bangladesh was adopted and it came into force on 16 December 1972, making today a very special occasion- the Constitution Day.
To mark the day, the Postal Department released a souvenir sheet of Taka 40 denomination, opening envelope of Taka 10 denomination, a data card worth Taka 5 and a special seal, which were unveiled by Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar, said a press release.
In a statement highlighting the significance of the day the minister said, “The constitution of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh made by Bangabandhu in 1972, is one of the best constitutions in the whole world.”
“Bangabandhu set a great example that a country can have a constitution quickly, even if it’s living in ruins after gaining independence through a bloody war,” he added.
“This constitution is written in the blood of the martyrs, and that is why it will live on as a tangible symbol of hopes and aspirations of the entire people of Bangladesh,” he said, added the release.
Souvenir sheets and opening envelopes will be available from today at the Philatelic Bureau of the Dhaka GPO.
