Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) on Friday observed the World Red Cross Red Crescent Day in a befitting manner through various programmes at the national and district levels.
In observance of the day, BDRCS on Friday hoisted the national and the Society’s flags, circulated special messages through social media, and broadcast special two-day discussion programme through Bangladesh Betar on the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and under the title of World Red Cross Red Crescent.
BDRCS said they observed the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day this time in a small scale due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said a press release.
The theme of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day this time was “Keep Clapping” to motivate the countrywide and worldwide volunteers as well as officials and employees of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
The programme of the Friday’s World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day began at 7:00 am through hoisting of the National flag and BDRCS flag at its headquarter in the capital.
BDRCS international relations and communication department director M Belal Hossain hoisted the National flag while CD department director MA Halim hoisted the flag of the society. BDRCS HR and Admin department director M Joynal Abedin and other officials and employees of the society were present, among others, on the occasion.
Meanwhile, in observance of the day, the BDRCS on Friday distributed various health safety equipments like hand sanitizer among some 200 police personnel working at various points in the capital while the national headquarter of Jubo Red Crescent distributed Iftar packets and custard among them.
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Secretary General M Firoz Salahuddin said the volunteers as well as officials and employees of the society have been working as a front liner to prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the circumstances, the theme of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day was fixed to acknowledge the efforts of the officials, employees and volunteers of the society as well as motivating the new generation towards humanity and serving the society.
Besides, the district units of BDRCS observed separate programmes to observe this day.
