Director General of Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) Dr. Cecep Effendi on Tuesday praised Bangladesh’s remarkable success in women empowerment and rural development.
“Bangladesh is a role model in the world in women empowerment and for their participation in micro credit,” he said when he paid a courtesy call on parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at the latter’s Jatiya Sangsad office.
During the meeting, they also discussed various bilateral and multilateral issues including CIRDAP cooperation in rural development and women empowerment sectors, a Jatiya Sangsad press release said here.
Lauding CIRDAP for its cooperation in rural development, the speaker said CIRDAP assistance for rural development has been playing very positive role in national development.
The Speaker said the present government had been implementing a number of programmes across the country for rural development and women empowerment as well to give further boost to rural economy.
In this connection, she referred to the government’s “Ekti Bari, Ekti Khamar” (one farm in one homestead), social safety net, VGD and VGF programmes.
She sought CIRDAP’s further cooperation in imparting training to rural women on agricultural production and food processing sectors in the greater national interest.
In reply, the DG of CIRDAP assured the Jatiya Sangsad Speaker that CIRDAP cooperation would be continued for Bangladesh’s development in the days to come.
