State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Monday said Bangladesh will be a model country in the ICT sector as it is witnessing remarkable progress due to time-befitting initiatives taken by the government.
“The country must be developed in the field of ICT to become a middle income nation”, he said while unveiling a new logo of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS)in its auditorium here.
Secretary General of BASIS Rasel T Ahmed, among others, addressed the function with its President Shamim Ahsan in the chair.
Palak stressed the need for transforming Bangladesh into a knowledge- based economy.
“The country is still a labor oriented economy. But we should put emphasis on knowledge-based economy by making optimum utilization of ICT,” he added.
Palak said the government has envisioned its philosophy Vision 2021: Digital Bangladesh leading towards use of ICT to leverage economic growth and development to transform Bangladesh into a middle- income country by 2021.
“We all should work from our respective position by adopting knowledge on information technology (IT) to build ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he added.
The BASIS has set a target to build one million IT professionals by 2018, Shamim said adding the country has immense potentials to earn huge foreign currency from ICT sector.
