B’desh mission to UN observes Independence Day

Bangladesh permanent mission to the United Nations in New York observed Independence Day on March 26 in a befitting manner.
Speaking at a function on this occasion, Bangladesh Permanent Representative to UN, Dr. AK Abdul Momen said singing of the national anthem by 2,54,681 people in Dhaka added a different flavour to the celebration of 43rd anniversary of independence, said an official release. He paid tributes to the martyrs of 1971 and said their sacrifice and ultimate victory would take the nation forward. UN Secretary General’s envoy Sujana Malkora, who addressed the function, said Bangladesh has become a role model in the world for economic development, empowerment of women, poverty alleviation and even peace keeping activities. The continuous achievements of Bangladesh bear the testimony that the country is fulfilling the goad of its birth, he added. Earlier, Dr. Monen, along with diplomats and officials of the mission, hoisted the nation flag. The messages of the President, the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister were read out in the function. The mission published a magazine titled ‘Bangladesh Marching Towards Progress’ highlighting the development activities of the present government.
