Bangladesh Women earned bronze medal in the Recurve Team event of the Asian Archery Championship at the Army Stadium in the city’s Banani on Wednesday. This is the first medal for Bangladesh in the ongoing Asian Archery Championship, the most prestigious archery competition of Asia.
Bangladesh Women’s team consists of Diya Siddique, Beauty Roy, Nasrin Akter defeated Vietnam by 5-2 set points to achieve bronze in Women’s Recurve Team event.
Earlier, Diya Siddique, Beauty Roy, Nasrin Akter crushed Uzbekistan by 5-3 set points in the quarter-final to move into the semi-final.
In the semi-final, Bangladesh Women lost to South Korea by 6-0 set points.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh collected bronze medal in the Men’s Compound Team event after beating Kazakhstan by 6-2 set points. Bangladesh Men’s Team consists of Ruman Shana, Hakim Ahmed Rubel and Ram Krishna Saha.
Bangladesh Women lost to Iran by 226-227 score in the quarter-final of the Women’s Compound Team event. Bangladesh Women’s team consists of Shyamoli Roy, Shuma Biswas and Banya Akter.
After clinching bronze medal, Diya Siddique said, ” We have confidence that we shall win bronze medal. We are very happy that we earned the first bronze medal in the Asian Archery Championship.”
Ruman Shana said, ” We are improving day by day. All the archers of our country have plan to earn medal after playing in a competition. We have a great opportunity to clinch medal this time. We have full-filled our target and dream. We won the medal for the first time which is a success in our sports arena.”
It may be mentioned that Diya Siddique-Hakim Ahmed Rubel duo will fight for gold medal in the Recurve Mixed event on November 19.
