Touring Bangladesh will take on hosts West Indies in the second Test at Darren Sammy Stadium in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia today. The match will start at 8.00pm (Bangladesh Standard Time). Private satellite sports channel T Sports will telecast the match live.
Earlier, Bangladesh lost to West Indies by seven wickets in the first Test at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua on June 19.
Before the second Test, Bangladesh faced West Indies in 19 Test matches. Of them, Bangladesh won four Test matches, while West Indies recorded 13 victories and rest of the two match ended in draws.
This two Test matches in the different venues of West Indies are part of the ICC World Test Championship. West Indies have taken the sixth position collecting 42 points from eight matches, while Bangladesh have achieved ninth spot earning 16 points from nine matches.
Bangladesh played against West Indies in Saint Lucia first in 2004. Bangladesh made a historic draw against West Indies in that Test match. Habibul Bashar, Khaled Mashud and Mohammad Rafique scored centuries in that Test match.
Bangladesh played against West Indies in Saint Lucia in 2014. Bangladesh suffered a 296-run defeat to West Indies in that Test match.
After losing the first Test match against West Indies in Antigua, Captain of Bangladesh Test Cricket team Shakib Al Hasan said, ”
“We needed to apply ourselves better. Going into lunch 6-wickets down wasn’t a good thing. That first session destroyed the match for us. We have been having a lot of collapses and it doesn’t help the bowlers. All the bowlers of our team bowled extremely well.”
He said, ” Mominul Haque can take break, if Mominul needs. The Team Management Committee can drop Mominul as the former skipper needs recess.”
Meanwhile, Bangladesh have included in-form batsman Anamul Haque Bijoy and pacer Shoriful Islam in their squad.
West Indies’ selector Desmond Haynes after earning the win the first Test said, “It was a very good victory in Antigua.
“The team played really well and must be feeling really confident heading into Saint Lucia for the second match.
“We have a group of players who are very disciplined and are giving 100 percent. Great credit to our bowlers who worked really hard in the first Test match.
“We can’t take Bangladesh lightly, they also bowled really well and were quite disciplined. I know we will try our utmost to win the second match.”
