Bangladesh whitewashed West Indies 3-0 in the three-match One Day International (ODI) series as the tourists thrashed the hosts by four wickets in the third and last ODI at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Saturday.
Chasing West Indies total of 178 off 48.4 overs, Bangladesh sailed home making 179 for the loss of six wickets when they had nine balls to spare.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as opener Najmul Hossain Shanto (1) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Shai Hope off Alzarri Joseph when the visitors’ total was 20.
After Shanto’s dismissal, Tamim Iqbal and Litton Das repaired the damage contributing together 50 runs for the second wicket partnership before Tamim was caught at the fine leg by Akeal Hossain off Gudakesh Montie when the tourists’ score was 70 for the loss of two wickets.
Tamim made 34 from 52 balls featuring four fours. Tamim Iqbal was adjudged the Player of the Series for his consistent batting performance.
After Tamim’s departure, Litton was caught & bowled by Gudakesh Montie when Bangladesh’s total was 96 for the loss of three wickets.
Litton notched up a superb 50. His 65-ball innings was studded with five fours and a sixer. It was Litton’s sixth half-century in ODI cricket.
Third-down Afif Hossain (0) was bowled out by Montie when the visiting side’s score was 96 for the loss of four wickets.
Fourth-down Mosaddek Hossain (14) was caught at the long-off by substitute JNT Seales off Montie when the touring side’s total was 116 for the loss of five wickets.
Mahmudullah Riyad and Nurul Hasan contributed 31 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Riyad (26) was stumped out by Hope off Nicholas Pooran when the touring side’s total was 147 for the loss of six wickets.
Then, Nurul Hasan and Mahidy Hasan Miraz guided their team to reach the victory target scoring together 32 runs in the unbroken seventh wicket stand.
Nurul remained unbeaten with 32 runs, while Miraz remained unbeaten with 16 runs.
Montie was his team’s most successful bowler. He captured four wickets at the cost of 23 runs.
Earlier, Bangladesh bowlers totally dominated the Caribbeans’ batters.
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam claimed five wickets in the space of 28 runs, while Mustafizur Rahman and Nasum Ahmed bagged two wickets each instead of 24 and 39 runs respectively. Taijul was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
Mosaddek Hossain took one wicket for 23 runs.
Pooran and Keacy Carty fought back against tight, controlled and superb bowling attack of Bangladesh.
Pooran hit 73. His 109-ball innings had four fours and two sixes.
Carty scored 33 from 66 balls with two fours and a sixer.
