BD, West Bengal solidarity event for Language Day begins

Three leading institutions of Bangladesh and Indian state of West Bengal, including Dhaka University, on Sunday started observing a 9-day solidarity programme marking the International Mother Language Day.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the function as the chief guest by lighting a torch at the Central Shaheed Minar here.
Two other host organizations are St. Xavier’s College of Kolkata and Banga Sahitya Samity.
Bangladesh-India-Pakistan People’s Forum representative Bhanu Ranjan Chakraborty, ‘Friends of Bangladesh’ coordinator ASM Shamsul Arefin and Solidarity Programme-2017 Convener Deepan Das attended the function, among others, with DU Music Department Chairman Dr Lina Taposhi in the chair.
Arefin Siddique urged the young generation to come forward to keep up the dignity of Bangla language. He also asked them to speak and write Bangla in a correct manner.
