Business Reporter :
“Bangladesh is not fully capable to use the existing climate fund in fighting global warming”, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said this at a workshop held at NEC Conference Room in the city on Wednesday.
He was addressing the inaugural session of a two-day long workshop on “NIE Accreditation Process: Getting Bangladesh Ready for the Green Climate Fund” organized by UNDP and National Designated Authority (NDA) of Bangladesh on Wednesday morning.
The minister said that the global fund will reach 200 billion by 2020. Bangladesh will get a portion from the amount, as the country is one of the victims of climate change.
“Though we have got funds for climate change, we are not fully capable in using the money,” he added.
Economic Relations Division (ERD) Senior Secretary Mohammad Mesbahuddin Ahmed and Green Climate Fund (GCF) Executive Director Hela Cheikhrouhou were present, among others, at the pre-workshop discussion.
The workshop will discuss the outcomes of self-assessment, identify the capacity/eligibility gaps and work out technical assistance that might be required to get Bangladesh ready for gaining access to GCF.
GIZ and UNDP along with GCF are providing technical support to NDA in enhancing direct accessibility to GCF through accredited NIEs.
Jillian Dyszynski, Country Operations Dialogue Specialist of GCF will be the lead facilitator and other facilitators from GIZ and UNDP.
