Bangladesh has been invited to attend the 28th International Energy Charter Conference in Turkmenistan which will be held in November this year.
The Turkmenistan Ambassador in Bangladesh Parakhat Durdyev handed over an invitation letter regarding this to State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Sunday at his secretariat office on behalf of Deputy Chairman of Turkmenistan Cabinet Maksat Babayev and secretary of International Energy Charter Urban Rusnak.
Mobilising Investment for Sustainable Energy Future and Diversified Transportation Routes will be discussed.
Turkmenistan ambassador said, there is a broad potentiality among two countries to work on petro products.
China, Iran and Afghanistan are importing CNG from Turkmenistan.
China takes gas to Hongkong through pipeline from Turkmenistan, Parakhat Durdyev said.
Besides, Turkmenistan ambassador offers for sharing experience of oil and gas exploration with Dhaka.
Nasrul Hamid told reporters that TAPI has unveiled huge potentiality for energy sector in these region as energy is the pre-condition of financial progress.
The State Minister expressed his keen desire for TAPI project. For this Nasrul asked the Turkmenistan ambassador to set a timeline for TAPI gas pipeline project.
According to sources, Bangladesh has approached Turkmenistan, expressing the desire to import gas through the TAPI pipeline, which will start from the Daulatabad field of Turkmenistan to pass through Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
Turkmenistan has asked Bangladesh to hold negotiations with Pakistan, India and Afghanistan before going for a deal for gas import,” a senior government official said.
“India could benefit if Bangladesh joins the project as Dhaka would have to pay transit fee to Delhi,” the government official said.
The US is playing a key role in pushing the TAPI pipeline project in an apparent bid to drive Pakistan away from the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project as well as to isolate Tehran. The US has also told Pakistan that it could finance the TAPI pipeline if Islamabad sidelines Iran.
