Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Wednesday said Bangladesh is keen to sign free trade agreement (FTA) with Turkey to boost bilateral trade.
“The first round of discussion for the FTA has been completed while the second round will be held soon,” said the minister while addressing a meeting as the chief guest.
Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TIM) and FBCCI jointly organized the “Turkey-Bangladesh Business Forum and B2B Meeting” in a city hotel.
Bangladesh doesn’t get duty and quota free access to Turkish market as the country is not in European Union.
“Bangladesh is not making the desired export to Turkey for high duty,” said the commerce minister, adding, “But the export will be boosted if the FTA is signed.”
He said Bangladeshi RMG, pharmaceuticals, frozen fish, dry food, jute and jute products, leather, plastic and ceramic products, manufactured ship and light engineering products have a good demand in Turkish market.
