BGB-BSF DG level 6-day meet begins in Delhi: Smuggling of arms-ammo, narcotics, human trafficking likely to be discussed

Bangladesh will raise its voice against killing of its unarmed nationals on border by Border Security Force [BSF] of India in the six-day long director general [DG]-level conference between the two border forces that began in New Delhi on Friday, officials said in Dhaka.
Earlier in the morning, a 22-member team of Border Guard Bangladesh [BGB] led by its DG Major General Aziz Ahmed left Dhaka to attend the conference, being held at BSF Headquarters in New Delhi.
Although the conference of two bordering forces began yesterday, the key agenda would be discussed between the two sides at 10:00am on October 3.
After that, BGB DG will meet Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh in a courtesy call. The Joint Record of Discussion [JRD] of the conference will be signed on October 4, according to a handout issued by BGB Headquarters.
The latest border talks between the two neighbouring countries is taking place at a time when India has been facing widespread criticism in the international arena, especially for the killing and torturing of Bangladeshi nationals by the BSF in the bordering zone.
Officials in Dhaka said that several other issues, including border trespassing, abductions, human trafficking, smuggling of arms, ammunition, phensidyl and other intoxicating drugs and cross-border crimes would get importance in the meeting.
Apart from this, the BGB will raise the issue of constructions and development works within 150 yards of the international border line. Side by side, preservation of banks of cross-border rivers would be in the agenda for discussion in the conference, the officials added.
The 22-member BGB team includes senior officials along with Commanders of Rangpur, Sarail, Chittagong and Jessore regions, DG of Department of Narcotics Control, officials of Home and Foreign Ministries, Bangladesh-India Joint River Commission and Land Record and Survey Directorate.
On the other hand, BSF DG Shri K K Sharma is leading a 25-member delegation that includes senior BSF officials, frontier IGs and high officials of External Affairs Ministry, Home Ministry, Joint River Commission and Survey of India.
Especially, the two border forces will discuss to find a way to tackle cross-border terrorism. Apart from this, the meeting will also discuss detaining of Bangladeshi nationals, illegal crossing of international border, smuggling of arms-ammunition and different kinds of drugs, such as phensidyl, alcohol, marijuana, heroin, sex stimulating viagra and senegra pills.
Besides, the two sides will also discuss mutual cooperation between the two forces.
As a part of increasing cooperation, an eleven-member team of BGB officials’ wives welfare association [simanto paribar kalian samity] is also visiting India under the leadership of organizational President Begum Dilshad Nahar Aziz, who is the wife of BGB DG.
The BGB delegation will visit different sight-seeing places after the end of the conference. Besides, a friendly volleyball match will be played between BGB and BSF on October 3, according to officials.
