BD to propose limiting temperature growth to 1.5ºC

Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju on Saturday said Bangladesh will propose in the upcoming COP 21 in Paris for limiting global temperature growth to 1.5ºC for the 21st century.
It is important to keep temperature growth under 1.5ºC to reduce global temperature gradually though the developed nations projected that temperature will increase at a rate of 4ºC, he said at the inaugural session of the ‘Bangladesh International Model United Nations (BIMUN) 2015’.
The four-day BIMUN programme focusing on ‘Climate Change and Sustainable Development’, started at Sonargaon Hotel and will continue till November 24.
United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB) in association with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs arranged the programme with the strategic partnership of United Nations Information Center (UNIC) and UN system Bangladesh, along with University of Dhaka as the knowledge partner.
Terming climate change a global problem, the Minister said Bangladesh has already submitted the proposal of keeping global temperature growth under 1.5ºC ahead of the Paris climate change summit.
As per the proposals of the developed countries, global temperature will increase at 4ºC which will invite immense danger for the world, he said.
Anwar Hossain said, world economy is losing 9 percent of its GDP every year due to climate change while the effects of the global warming is a lot more intense for the under developed nations.
