Bangladesh is set to join the global community in observing the World Hemophilia Day today to drum up the awareness campaign to support the patients with hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders.
World Hemophilia Day is observed every year on 17th April to advocate a global effort to ensure appropriate care and treatment for a disease that is the oldest known genetic bleeding disorder caused by a deficiency in the genes.
The disease is not curable, but with proper knowledge and treatment it can be handled.
According to World federation of Hemophilia (WFH), globally 1 in 1,000 people have a bleeding disorder. Most are not diagnosed and do not receive treatment. World Hemophilia Day provides an opportunity to talk to your family and friends, colleagues, and caregivers to raise awareness and increase support for those living with an inherited bleeding disorder.
Supported by the WFH, hemophilia awareness day was first established in 1989. The date of 17th April was chosen to honor Frank Schnabel the founder of WFH, whose birthday falls on the same date.
To mark the Day Hemophilia and Health Care Trust on Saturday organised a human chain in front of Jatiya Press Club (JPC).
Later they arranged a discussion in JPC and placed their 10-points demands for the welfare of the patients.
The demands included providing blood, fresh plazma and essential injections to the patients free of costs, set up 10-bed Hemophilia ward and establish physiotherapy center at Dhaka medical college hospital.
Engineer Abdul Majid Fakir presided over the discussion.
