Seeking more investment by Chinese entrepreneurs in various sectors, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said China needs to do more for Bangladesh’s development.
“China should do more for the development of Bangladesh,” the Prime Minister said when Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made a courtesy call on her at her official residence Ganabhaban.
PM’s Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri briefed reporters after the meeting and said both discussed matters relating to mutual interests and common concern.
“Both the countries would cooperate with each other for achieving the desired goal of poverty alleviation and making overall socioeconomic development and prosperity,” Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was quoted as saying.
She said China is the role model of development, and Bangladesh would follow China in this regard. “Development of China means development of Asia,” she said.
Lauding the existing relations among Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar, the Prime Minister stressed the need for further strengthening the relations for mutual benefits of the countries.
During the meeting, Wang Yi reaffirmed that China will remain beside Bangladesh during its urgent needs and also in its efforts to emerge as a prosperous country.
The Chinese Foreign Minister also assured of providing all kinds of assistance in achieving its goal to become a middle-income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041.
The Chinese Foreign Minister highly appreciated Bangladesh’s marked development achieved during the last six years saying that Bangladesh is growing very fast.
He also mentioned that the dream of Bangladesh and China is the same and that is overall development.
Wang Yi hoped that Bangladesh would reach its cherished goal if it could effectively utilize all its capability and strength in the development process.
About regional cooperation, he said, the problems of the countries like Bangladesh, China and India are almost common.
In this regard, the Chinese Foreign Minister said Bangladesh could act as a bridge between South and South East Asian regions in strengthening cooperation among the states of the region. “Bangladesh can play a more important role in maintaining peace as well as achieving the desired development of the region,” Wang Yi was quoted as telling Hasina.
At the meeting, the Chinese Foreign Minister also expressed interest in importing jute and jute goods from Bangladesh.
He said China is ready to provide high-yielding verity of paddy seeds with technological support to Bangladesh from more food grains production in Bangladesh.
