‘BD to be child-labour free by 2025’

State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Mannujan Sufian said Bangladesh will be a child labour free country within 2025 as per the target set under the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) designed to end poverty by 2030.
“As per the SDG goals, Bangladesh will be child labour free through working in a coordinated approach comprising of the public and private organizations”, she said this on Tuesday while speaking at the ninth meeting of the National Child Labour Welfare Council at the Labour Bhaban here.
Mentioning that family hardship is the main reason behind dropout from education and engagement in the child labour, she said, “To eradicate child labour would be easier after properly finding out more reasons behind the problem.”
To eradicate the child labour, a total of nine strategic areas have been identified in the National Child Labour Elimination Policy-2010, she added.
As today’s children are the citizen of tomorrow, so we have to build them appropriately.
Labour Secretary KM Abdus Salam, Additional Secretaries-Dr Molla Jalal Uddin and Dr Rezaul Haq- Additional Health Secretary Saidur Rahman, Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office Munira Begum, Director General of the Department of Labour AKM Mizanur Rahman, Jatiya Sramik League president M Fazlul Haq Montu, Women Lawyers Association President Salma Ali and representatives from different ministries, ILO and other non-government organisations also participated in the meeting.
