BD to attain 7pc GDP growth in FY15: Kamal

Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal Thursday reiterated that the country would be able to attain 7 per cent GDP growth in the fiscal year 2014-15 (FY15).
“If the present trend of the economic indicators like remittance, export of last six months is continued then there is every reason attain the goal of 7 per cent GDP growth,” he said at Meet Press at NEC Conference Room in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. Mentioning over US$ 5 billion export earning in the last two months, Kamal said if the trend is going on, the export earnings would stand at US$ 33 billion at the end of the year.
He opined said political disturbance created by the BNP led alliance would not hinder the country’s economic growth. Replying to a query, the planning minister said the government wants to change the scenario especially the economic condition of the southwestern region of the country. “We will construct Paira Deep Sea port in the region,” he added.
Kamal said: “Now we have to take decision about the deep sea port in Chittagong. A deep sea port is supposed to be established in the Matarbari power plant complex while another deep sea port in Sonadia, which is situated 25 KM upstream of the Matarbari.
