The Bangladesh government is thinking to re-evaluate its relations with Pakistan as apart from expressing reaction over the war crimes trial, it is trying to interfere into the country’s internal affairs.
“We are obviously assessing and evaluating our relations with Pakistan. We are thinking of our next move,” State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam told journalists at his residence in the city on Friday.
Pakistan, in an official reaction after the executions of war criminal Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Matiur Rahman Nizami, said it was “saddened” by this development.
A crack developed between Bangladesh and Pakistan following the execution of Matiur Rahman Nizami for his crimes against humanity in the 1971 War of Independence, as both the countries have summoned envoys in
Dhaka and Islamabad and issued notes verbally to each other. Shahriar Alam termed Pakistan’s reaction over the execution of war criminal Matiur Rahman Nizami as tragic and unfortunate.
“Besides, expressing reaction on war crimes trial in Bangladesh, Pakistan recently in a Commonwealth meeting also took position in favour of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia and gave statement in favour of her,” he said. Replying to a query about withdrawal of the ambassador of Turkey, the State Minister said he does not have such information.
“We have obtained information about the Ambassador of Turkey that in a written letter he informed the Foreign Ministry that he is going abroad. And he also told the name of the diplomat, who would discharge as the ambassador Turkey during his absence,” he said.
Replying to a query he said Bangladesh’s relations with other foreign countries are better than previous time. “Conspiracy against the country is now being hatched at home and abroad,” he said.
Despite knowing the reality that after long six years of trial, top war criminal and Jamaat Chief Matiur Rahman Nizami was hanged as all four allegations, including rape, killing and arson against him, were proved before the Tribunal.
Pakistan has started a campaign against the execution, violating diplomatic norms in the international arena, he said.
