Bangladesh have been struggling to avoid defeat making 136 runs only for the loss of six wickets in the Second innings against Afghanistan on the fourth day of the lone Test match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Sunday. Bangladesh still trail by 261 runs with four wickets in hand.
Shakib Al Hasan and Soumya Sarkar were on 39 and naught before the rain interrupted the fourth day play before the bails were drawn for that day.
Electing to bat first, Afghanistan piled up a comfortable total of 342 in their first innings on the
second day (Friday). In reply, Bangladesh scored 205 runs only in their first innings on the third day.
Later, Afghanistan made 260 in their Second innings on the fourth day. Afghanistan resumed their Second innings with the overnight score of 237 for the loss of eight wickets.
Afsar Zazai and Yamin Ahmadzai resumed their Second innings with the overnight score of 34 and naught respectively.
Yamin (9) was run out by a joint-effort of Liton Das and wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim when Afghanistan’s score was 260 for the loss of nine wickets.
Number-11 batsman Zahir Khan (0) was caught at the forward short leg by Mominul Haque off Mehidy Hasan Miraz when Afghanistan’s Second innings came to an end.
Afsar Zazai remained unbeaten with 48.
Sadly Bangladesh had a shaky start in the 2nd innings only as opener Liton Das ( 9) was trapped leg before wicket by Zahir Khan when Bangladesh’s score was 30.
One-down Mosaddek Hossain ( 12) was caught at the long-off by Asghar Afghan bowled by Zahir Khan when the team’s total was 52 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Mushfiqur Rahim (23) was trapped leg before wicket by Rashid Khan when the hosts’ score was 78 for the loss of three wickets. Third-down Mominul Haque (3) was trapped leg before wicket by Rashid Khan when the home side’s total was 82 for the loss of four wickets.
Opener Shadman Islam was trapped leg before wicket by Mohammad Nabi when Bangladesh’s score was 106 for the loss of five wickets. Shadman knocked a patient 41. His 114-ball innings saw four shots across the ropes.
Mahmudullah Riyad ( 7) was caught at the forward short leg by Ibrahim Zadran bowled by Rashid Khan when Bangladesh’s score was 125 for the loss of six wickets.
