BD signs $3b deal in E-Commerce fair

Bangladesh has signed a total of $3 billion with four USA and Singapore-based firms on Friday, the opening day of the two-day UK-Bangladesh E-Commerce Fair in London.
The two-day fair began at the Waterlily Convention Center of East London.
Bangladesh Hi-tech Park Managing Director Hosne Ara Begum, on behalf of Bangladesh Government, signed the agreements in presence of Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and State Minister for Information and Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak.
On the other hand, Chairman of Seamark Group Iqbal Ahmed OBE, Telecom Asia Chief Executive Mohammad Shahfayet Alam and Managing Directopr of Techshed Ltd UK Sushanta Das Gupta signed the agreements on behalf of respective sides.
Singapore-based IT firm Telecom Asia Chief Executive Mohammad Shahfayet Alam said they are considering mobile payment gateway, triple play, IT & telecommunications consumer product and specialized technology park as their investor sectors.
Tofail Ahmed, who inaugurated the two-day ‘E-Commerce Fair’ at Oriental Hotel in London, in his speech said, “Bangladesh is the country of rapidly growing economy among the Southeast Asian countries. It will be pioneer in information technology sector in Southeast Asian region.”
The minister urged Bangladesh expatriates in UK to invest in their home country.
Conservative Party MP John Alan Redwood, Conservative Party MP Paul Scully, Computer Jagat CEO Abdul Wahed Tomal, NRB Bank Chairman Iqbal Ahmed OBE, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Abdul Matlub Ahmad and event Director Rahim Mia also spoke at the inaugural function.
The Fair jointly organized by ICT Division, Bangladesh Hi-tech Park authority, and Computer Jagat, the fair will showcase products and services of E-Commerce companies of Bangladesh to Bangladeshi Community in London. The slogan of this year’s fair is – Digital Bangladesh: A Land of Opportunities.
More than 50 companies including online stores, websites, e-Government services, credit cards and payment services, banking services, e-education, real-estate, telecom, courier/delivery service, airlines, tourism-travel and hotel, fashion house are showcasing their products and services in this year’s fair.
