Shipping Ministry has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) for the development of ports, river-ways and maritime sector in Bangladesh.
Shipping Secretary Md. Abdus Samad and Director of Global Investments for RSGT Gagan Seksaria signed the MoU at a ceremony at the ministry’s conference room on Wednesday, said a press release.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Shipping, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh were present on the occasion.
The non-binding MoU was signed in relation to multiple projects including but not limited to the opportunities in Chattogram Port and Payra Port, the new inland container services at the Inland Container Depot, Pubail, Gazipur and other port investment opportunities in Bangladesh. RSGT may pursue the scope for opportunities in other Bangladeshi ports and identify mechanisms available for building projects and a strategic partnership, said the release.
Md. Abdus Samad extended his gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) for its continued support in the socio-economic development of Bangladesh. He hoped that the excellent relationship between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia would be strengthened further with cooperation from both countries.
RSGT, a limited liability company incorporated under the laws of Saudi Arabia, expressed its interest to work with Ministry of Shipping on the development of Bangladesh’s maritime sector through various projects related to Chittagong Port Authority and Payra port Authority etc.
