Bangladesh should focus on the youth and grassroots football for the development of its football, said FIFA Senior Development Manager Mike Pfister on Friday.
Pfister made the remarks while speaking at a press conference at the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) House.
FIFA Development Officer, South Asian Region Dr Shaji Prabhakaran, FIFA Technical Development Officer Vincent Sbramaniam, BFF President Kazi Salahuddin and BFF Chairperson of Women’s Wing Mahfuza Akter Kiron were, among others, present on the occasion.
Pfister said Bangladesh football is passing through a very bad time at the international level and the country will have to take a challenge to keep football alive.
Responding to a question, Pfister said FIFA is not a bank. Any member will get finance from the FIFA if they show their improvement.
Dr Shaji Prabhakaran said clubs and district associations should work together for the development of Bangladesh football.
BFF President Kazi Salahuddin said they taken a four-year plan for the development of football. “We’ll work with U-16 and U-18 Men’s and Women’s. We’ll start youth tournament,” he said, seeking financial support from the FIFA for the field reforms and establishing gymnasium.
After arrival in Bangladesh on November 1, the ‘FIFA Forward Football Development’ team discussed the development of Bangladesh football with the authorities concerned.
