Bangladesh Army has deployed a contingent under the leadership of a woman officer for the first time ever in the UN peacekeeping mission in Ivory Coast [United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire].
A 56-member medical team of army left Dhaka by a UN flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday night, said a press release issued by the Inter Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) on Sunday.
First in the history of Bangladesh Army, Colonel Dr Nazma Begum leads the team as a commander of 21 field ambulance, which assigned to provide medical support at Ivory Coast Level-2 Hospital. There are six female officers in the team.
She has been working as assistant director of medical service at 11 Infantry Division stationed in Bogra Cantonment.
Bangladesh Army under the UN peacekeeping mission has been working in Ivory Coast since 2004. The army officials have won acclaim for best performance to check the prevailing conflict in the country, added the release.
