Bangladesh on Tuesday saw the highest-ever jump in coronavirus cases and deaths in a single day as the health authorities confirmed the detection of 3,862 new patients and record 53 deaths in the span of 24 hours.
With this, the death toll rose to 1,262 and the number of confirmed cases in the country reached 94,481.
Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin.
In the last 24 hours, 61 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested highest 17,214 samples, she added.
The detection rate of new patients on Tuesday has been recorded at 22.44 percent.
Across the country 2,237 more patients made recovery, she said adding that so far 36,264 people have recovered from the disease.
Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 38.38 percent and the mortality rate is 1.34 percent in the country.
Among the deceased, 47 were male and six were female, said Dr Nasima.
“Their age-based analysis says, one was aged between 11 and 20 years, three were aged between 21 and 30 years, two between 31 and 40, nine between 41 and 50 years, 19 between 51 and 60, 10 between 61 and 70, eight between 71 and 80 and another was aged between 81 and 90 years,” she said.
Thirty patients died in Dhaka division, 14 in Chattogram division, four in Rajshahi division, three in Khulna division, one in Barishal division and another died in Mymensingh division.
“Thirty four people died in hospitals across the country, 18 died at home and another was declared dead upon arrival at hospital,” she added.
Besides, 635 more people were taken to isolation in the last 24 hours while 359 were released and currently, 10,302 people are in isolation.
During the same period, another 3,421 people were home and institutionally quarantined and 2,544 were released. At present 62,546 people are quarantined across the country.
