Bangladesh has sought technological and operational assistance from the United Kingdom for commercialization of agriculture and boosting export of agricultural products.
Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque on Tuesday sought the cooperation when British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson called on him at the secretariat.
During the meeting, the minister highlighted the success of Bangladesh in agriculture sector.
“Though we have been successful in production, Bangladesh is lagging behind in export and processing of agro products. We don’t have shortage of fund; we need technical and operational support. Britain’s cooperation is required in this regard,” said the minister. Robert Chatterton assured him of providing more support in processing and boosting export of agricultural goods.
He also assured that initiatives will be taken to involve the British private sector to enhance co-operation in the agricultural sector of Bangladesh, according to an official release.
A delegation of entrepreneurs and businessmen led by the Agriculture Minister will visit the Netherlands and the United Kingdom soon aiming to boost exports of fresh vegetables and fruits and processed agricultural products to the European markets, said the minister.
“We have huge surplus crops. We want to export those to the European markets. During the visit to UK, we will have discussions with delegation of trade bodies, chain shops and supermarkets in this regard,” he added.
Senior officials of the Agriculture Ministry were also present.
