2nd Test with Windies: BD score 259/5 on first day

Bangladesh scored 259 for the loss of five wickets at stumps in the first innings against West Indies on the first day of the second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Friday.
Bangladesh made a good start as opener Shadman Islam and Soumya Sarkar put on together 42 runs in the opening partnership before Soumya Sarkar (19) was caught at the first slip by Shai Hope of Roston Chase.
Then Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque contributed together 45 runs for the second wicket partnership before Mominul Haque (29) was caught at the long-on by Roston Chase off Kemar Rose when the team’s total was 87 for the loss of two wickets.
Debutante Shadman Islam notched up his maiden Test half-century. Shadman knocked a painstaking 76. His 199-ball innings had six fours. Shadman fulfilled his fifty-run landmark using 147 deliveries with four fours.
After dismissal of Mominul, Shadman and Mohammad Mithun built another notable partnership. They added together 64 runs before Mithun (29) was clean bowled out by Devendra Bishoo when the hosts’ total was 151 for the

loss of three wickets. After Mithun’s removal, Shadman was trapped leg before wicket by Bishoo when Bangladesh’s score was 161 for the loss of four wickets.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim (14) was bowled out by SH Lewis when the home side’s total was 190 for the loss of five wickets.
Later, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad contributed together 69 runs for the unbroken six-wicket partnership before the umpires drew the bails for the first day.
Shakib Al Hasan remained unbeaten with 55. His patient 153-ball innings saw just one four. It was Shakib’s 24th Test half-century.
Riyad remained unbeaten with 31.
Devndra Bishoo bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 69 runs, while SH Lewis, Kemar Roach and Roston Chase took one wicket each for 35, 38 and 61 runs respectively.
