Bangladesh scored 214 runs for the loss of five wickets in their first innings against Sri Lanka on the second day of the 2nd Test at P Sara Oval in Colombo on Thursday.
Earlier, Sri Lanka made 338 in their first innings on the second day. Bangladesh made a solid start with the two openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar with 95 runs in the opening stand before Tamim Iqbal was trapped leg before wicket by Rangana Herath.
Tamim Iqbal notched up a polished 49. His 91-ball innings had six fours.
After dismissal of Tamim, Soumya Sarkar and Imrul Kayes added 35 runs for the second wicket partnership before Soumya Sarkar was bowled out by Lakshan Sandakan when the team’s total was 135 for the loss of two wickets.
Soumya hit a fine 61. His 121-ball knock was decorated with six fours. It was Sarkar’s 4th Test half century.
Then Imrul Kayes and Sabbir Rahman contributed 62 runs for the third wicket stand before Imrul Kayes was trapped leg before wicket by Lakshan Sandakan when Bangladesh’s score was 192 for the loss of three wickets.
Imrul Kayes made a fine 34 from 78 balls featuring four fours.
After departure of Kayes, night watchman Taijul Islam arrived at the crease for a short period as he was trapped leg before wicket by Lakshan Sandakan on duck when the tourists’ total was 192 for the loss of four wickets.
After removal of Taijul, Sabbir Rahman was caught at the gully by Dhananjaya de Silva off Suranga Lakmal when the team’s score was 198 for the loss of five wickets.
Sabbir scored a worthy 42 from 54 balls hitting five fours.
Shakib Al Hasan was on 18 and Mushfiqur Rahim was on two at stumps on the second day.
Lakshan Sandakan grabbed three wickets at the cost of 65 runs, while Suranga Lakmal and Rangana Herath took one wicket each for 32 and 34 runs respectively.
Sri Lanka scored 238 for the loss of seven wickets at the close of first day’s play.
Dinesh Chandimal and Rangana Herath resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 86 and 18 runs respectively.
But they could add more 12 runs on the second day as Herath (25) was caught at the slip by Soumya Sarkar off Shakib Al Hasan when the islanders’ total was 250 for the loss of eight wickets.
Chandimal notched up a splendid 138. His 300-ball calm innings was ornamented with 10 fours and a six. It was Chandimal’s 8th Test century.
After dismissal of Herath, Chandimal and Suranga Lakmal added 55 runs for the ninth wicket partnership before Chandimal was caught by Mosaddek Hossain off Mehedi Hasan Miraz when Sri Lanka’s score was 305 for the loss of nine wickets.
After departure of Chandimal, Lakmal and Lakshan Sandakan put on 33 runs together in the 10-wicket stand before Lakmal was caught at the third-man by Soumya Sarkar off Subashis Roy when the hosts’ innings came to an end.
Lakmal scored 35 from 45 balls hitting two fours and a six.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Shakib Al Hasan and Subashis Roy got one wicket each on the second day.
