Bangladesh rose one position for overall rule of law performance (from 103 in the 2016 World Justice Project
Rule of Law Index) to 102 out of 113 countries in the 2017-2018 edition. Its score places it at 4 out of 6 countries in the South Asia region, 24 out of 30 among lower middle income countries, and 102 out of 113 countries and jurisdictions worldwide.
The top three overall performers in the 2017-2018 WJP Rule of Law Index were Denmark (1), Norway (2), and Finland (3); the bottom three were Afghanistan (111), Cambodia (112), and Venezuela (113).  It was Mominul’s fifth Test century. He reached the hundred-run landmark using 96 deliveries with three fours.
Bangladesh made an auspicious start with the two openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes put on together 72 runs before Tamim Iqbal was bowled out by Dilruwan Perera.
Tamim hit a superb 52. His 53-ball innings was ornamented with six fours and a sixer. It was Tamim’s 25th Test half century.
After Tamim’s dismissal, opener Imrul Kayes and Mominul Haque contributed together 48 runs for the second wicket partnership before Kayes was trapped leg before wicket by Lakshan Sandakan when Bangladesh’s total was 120 for the loss of two wickets.
Kayes hit a polished 40. His 75-ball innings saw four shots through the ropes.
After Imrul’s departure, Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim added 236 runs in the third wicket stand before Mushfiqur Rahim was caught behind by wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella off Suranga Lakmal when the hosts’ score was 356 for the loss of three wickets. Mushfiqur Rahim was a victim of nervous nineties.
Mushfiq knocked a sedate 92. His 192-ball innings was decorated with 10 fours. He fulfilled his 19th Test half century playing 121 deliveries with four fours.
Then Liton Kumar Das arrived at the crease but Lakmal bowled him for a duck when Bangladesh’s score was 356 for the loss of four wickets.
After Liton’s dismissal, Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah Riyad added together 18 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket stand when the home side’s total was 374 for the loss of four wickets.
Riyad was on nine before the two umpires pocketted the bails for the first day.
Suranga Lakmal bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 43 runs, while Lakshan Sandakan and Dilruwan Perera got one wicket each conceding 58 and 98 runs respectively.
