The practice of Bangladesh preliminary cricketers squad washed out by heavy rain at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Tuesday. The cricketers and coaches started their practice for a few moments but the rain washed out their training programme.
It was a good news for the Red-and-Green out-fit that best ODI all-rounder of world cricket Shakib Al Hasan and the ‘Cutter Master’ Mustafizur Rahman physically present in the training session.
The duo returned home from India on May 6 after taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) which was postponed at halfway through the tournament following the surge of Covid-19 cases in India.
Shakib went straightly to Hotel Four Points Sheraton in Gulshan of the capital while Mustafizur and his wife went to Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city’s Karwanbazar after arriving at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. According to the Government rule they were scheduled to take a 14-day quarantine there. Later, the Health Ministry reduced the quarantine period of the ace all-rounder and the left-arm pacer. They reported to the coaching staffs two days before ending their quarantine period.
Both the cricketers returned Covid-19 negative in multiple tests over the last few weeks.
Shakib though was dropped after three matches for Kolkata Knight Riders, Mustafizur played all of the matches for Rajasthan Royals before the postponement of the cash-rich tournament. Shakib scored only 38 runs and took two wickets while Mustafizur who rediscovered his killer form snapped up eight wickets in seven matches in an effort of economical bowling.
