BD Permanent Mission to UN organises Eid reunion

Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations (UN) has organised an ‘Eid Reunion’ in honour of Permanent Representatives and Ambassadors of the member states of the UN on Tuesday at its Bangabandhu Auditorium in New York.
Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque and Bangladesh Permanent Representative (PR) to the United Nations Ambassador Masud Bin Momen were present in the event, according to a press release received here on Wednesday. The re-union turned into a friendly gathering of permanent representatives and diplomats of over 100 countries including India, Japan, Russia, China, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, the release said. At the event, the main point of discussion was the upcoming election for the position of Deputy Director-General (DDG) of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) where Bangladesh has floated the candidacy of its Foreign Secretary Ambassador Shahidul Haque. Ambassador Momen requested the permanent representatives to support Bangladesh’s candidacy for the post of DDG of IOM, it added. Referring to Bangladesh’s long and deep involvement with international migration discourse, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar said, “To continue the legacy, now at the operational level, Bangladesh has floated candidacy of its Foreign Secretary Ambassador Shahidul Haque for the position of DDG of IOM”.
Showcasing the tremendous socio-economic development of Bangladesh, the State Minister also thanked the diplomats for their support to Bangladesh’s candidacy for the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) election that would be held on June 14, 2019.
Civilians and Defence officials of Bangladesh working at the UN Headquarters were also present at the event.
