BD, OIC discuss coop to counter terrorism

UNB, Dhaka :Visiting Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani on Thursday laid emphasis on utilizing the OIC mechanism of a messaging centre to post messages countering false narrative of the terrorists from October this year.The Secretary General talked about the issue during his meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali in which they discussed OIC mechanisms and cooperation to counter terrorism and stressed the need for debunking false narratives of the radicals and terrorists.Welcoming the Secretary General the Foreign Minister called upon him for his greater role in enhancing OIC solidarity and appreciated the initiatives and projects he has undertaken to deal with the problems facing the Muslim Ummah.He expressed gratitude to the Secretary General for his support and solidarity with Bangladesh which he expressed following recent terrorist attack in Gulshan and deeply appreciated his readiness to visit Bangladesh in this regard.The Secretary General reiterated his and OIC’s support and solidarity with Bangladesh against recent terrorist killings in Gulshan and emphasised cooperation of member countries.During the meeting, the OIC Secretary General paid tribute to Bangladesh for its constructive role in OIC for peace and development in the Muslim world.He particularly appreciated the role of Bangladesh leadership and remarked that Bangladesh was very active in OIC and its views were widely respected.Conflict situation and problems of the Muslim world were discussed and two dignitaries exchanged views and compared notes. Some key issues concerning the forthcoming 43rd session of Council of Foreign Ministers to be held in Tashkent in October this year were also discussed and views of Bangladesh Foreign Minister was sought. The Secretary General sought the Foreign Minister’s support on OIC’s efforts regarding Syrian crisis and holding second Ulama conference in Afghanistan.He also sought Bangladesh’s support and involvement in the rapprochement initiatives and conflict resolution mechanisms of OIC. The two dignitaries also discussed and exchanged views on the situation of Muslim minorities in non-Muslim states and the need for humanitarian assistance.The visit is part of four Asian OIC member countries tour of the Secretary General.
