BD nat’l jailed over immigration offences

A Bangladeshi national was fined RM30,000 and sentenced to 80 months’ jail today and two strokes of caning by the Pekan Nanas Immigration Sessions Court in Malaysia after he pleaded guilty to 16 charges under the Immigration Act. The sentence for the 40-year-old construction worker, Md Mohiuddin Mamun, was meted out by Judge Zahilah Md Yusof. He committed the offences at two premises on Jalan Wong Ah Fook, Johor Baru between 4pm and 5pm, on August 27, this year. The first 14 counts of offences were for unlawful possession of other people’s passports, while the two other offences were for forging or amending travel documents and for violating his social visit pass. Immigration Department deputy assistant director Norzuriana Muhammad Nor prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented.
