BD missions abroad celebrate Independence Day

Bangladesh missions abroad have celebrated the 46th anniversary of the Independence and National Day in a befitting manner by holding different programmes.
According to messages received here yesterday, like other Bangladesh missions abroad, Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations, Bangladesh High Commission in London and Bangladesh Consulate General in Istambul observed the day by paying glowing tributes to the Liberation War martyrs who laid down their lives for the country’s independence in 1971.
Besides, the day’s programmes included: hoisting of the national flag, discussion meetings, recitation from the Holy Quran, special prayers seeking divine blessings for salvation of the departed souls of the 1971 martyrs and for the continued development, peace and progress of the country. Messages from President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam were also read out by heads and officials of the missions, according to messages received here.
In New York, Bangladesh Missions held a discussion at Bangabandhu Auditorium there on the 46th Independence and National Day. Permanent Representative of Bangladesh Mission in New York Masud Bin Momen, expatriate Awami League leaders and media personalities took part in the discussion.
As part of Independence Day programme, Bangladesh High Commission in London also organized a discussion at London’s Kensington Town Hall with High Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Hannan in the chair.
The discussion was followed by a dinner with the participation of different professionals, expatriate leaders of Awami League and its associate bodies, various cultural organizations and senior journalists of print and electronic media.
Bangladesh Consulate General in Istambul also celebrated the day with great enthusiasm and in a befitting manner at the Consulate premises on March 26, 2016. Ambassador M Allama Siddiki was present as the chief guest with Consul General F M Borhan Uddin in the chair. The officials of the Bangladesh Consulate General, members of expatriate Bangladesh community living in Istanbul and students pursuing higher studies in Istanbul participated in the celebration.
