Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi paid glowing tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Sunday as the mission observed the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu that galvanized the Bangladesh people to prepare for the Liberation War.
Marking the day, Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Muhammad Imran hoisted the national flag on chancery premises.
He also led the officials of the mission to place a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on the chancery building premises.
Later, a discussion was held highlighting the significance of the 18-minute speech that was recognised as part of World Documentary Heritage in 2017 by UNESCO. The high commissioner presided over the discussion.
Ambassador of Bhutan Vetsop Namgyel, Prof of Sanjay Bharadwaj of JNU and eminent journalist Gautam Lahiri took part in the discussion.
“We are fortunate that we are going to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Independence under the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the blood of Bangabandhu and the legacy of his ideals,” said Imran.
The historic extempore speech delivered before a sea of crowd at the then-Race Course (now Suhrawardy Udyan) in Dhaka will remain ever inspiring to the people of Bangladesh, he said.
He also said being inspired by Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech, the people work hard, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to build Sonar Bangla as dreamt by the Father of the Nation.
The other discussants narrated how the speech of Bangabandhu had united the
entire nation to fight against the then Pakistani occupation forces to
achieve independence.
They also expressed their high appreciation on the current progress of
Bangladesh.
Earlier, the messages of President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina issued marking the Historic March 7 Speech were read out at the event.
A documentary on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s
