Bangladesh made a flying start in the four-match Twenty20 International series defeating Zimbabwe by four wickets in the first Twenty20 International match at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Friday.
Chasing Zimbabwe’s fighting total of 163 for the
loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, Bangladesh sailed home making 166 for the loss of six wickets when they had eight balls to spare.
Bangladesh made a modest start as they lost their first wicket Soumya Sarkar (7) when the hosts’ total was 31.
Then opener Tamim Iqbal was caught at the long-off by Vusimusi Sibanda off Graeme Cremer when Bangladesh’s score was 58 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Shuvagata Hom (6) was cleanly bowled out by Sean Williams when Bangladesh’s total was 74 for the loss of three wickets.
Later, Sabbir Rahman and Mushfiqur Rahim contributed together 44 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Sabbir Rahman was caught at the deep mid-wicket by Malcolm Waller off Graeme Cremer when the home side’s score was 118 for the loss of four wickets.
Sabbir Rahman hit the team’s highest of 46. His 36-ball innings was ornamented with four fours and a sixer.
Tamim Iqbal made a fine 29 from 24 balls featuring three fours and a sixer, while Mushfiqur Rahim scored 26 off 19 balls with three boundaries before Mushfiqur was caught at the deep mid-wicket by Sikandar Raza off Wellington Masakadza when Bangladesh’s total was 125 for the loss of five wickets.
Later, ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan played the key for Bangladesh’s victory making an unbeaten 20. He hit two fours in his 13-ball innings.
Graeme Cremer was the pick of the Zimbabwean bowlers with two wickets at the cost of 32 runs. Earlier, Zimbabwe made a brisk start with Vusimusi Sibanda and Hamilton Masakadza, the two openers added 101 runs in the opening stand before Sibanda was caught by Tamim Iqbal off Shakib Al Hasan.
After dismissal of Sibanda, the African side failed to build any notable partnership.
Hamilton Masakadza hit the day’s highest of 79. His 53-ball superb innings was decorated with nine fours and two sixes. Masakadza was adjudged Man of the Match.
Vusimusi Sibanda notched up a respectable 46 from 39 balls including four fours and two sixes.
After dismissal of Masakadza, who was run out by debutante wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan, Bangladeshi bowlers dominated over the Zimbabwean batsmen with their tight and controlled bowling attack.
New sensation left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman and right-hand pacer Al-Amin Hossain captured a pair of wickets each for 18 and 24 runs respectively.
