Bangladesh lost to West Indies by four wickets in the second ODI at the flood-lit Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Tuesday. By virtue of yesterday’s victory, the Caribbeans leveled the series with the Tigers. Bangladesh will take on West Indies in the last and final ODI at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on December 14.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a fighting total of 255 for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs.
In return, West Indies reached the winning spot making 256 for the loss of six wickets when they had just two balls to spare.
Shai Hope played the key role for his team’s victory. He remained unbeaten with 146. His 144-ball innings saw 12 fours and three sixers. Shai Hope was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning innings.
Bangladesh had an unhappy start as the opener Liton Das returned to the pavilion after getting injury in his foot when Bangladesh’s score was 11 for the loss of none.
Imrul Kayes (0) was caught behind by Shai Hope off Oshane Thomas when the team’s total was 14 for the loss of one wicket.
Then Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim repaired the damage contributing together 111 runs for the second wicket stand before Tamim was caught at the midwicket by Kemar Roach off Devendra Bishoo when the Tigers’ score was 125 for the loss of two wickets.
Tamim hit an exact fifty. He hit four fours and a sixer in his 63-ball innings. It was Tamim’s 43rd ODI fifty.
Mushfiqur Rahim was caught behind by Shai Hope off Oshane Thomas when Bangladesh’s score was 132 for the loss of three wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim notched up a gritty 62. His 80-ball knock was laced with five fours. It was Mushfiq’s 32nd ODI half-century.
After Mushfiqur’s dismissal, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad put on together 61 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Riyad was caught at the cover by Shimron Hetmyer off Roston Paul when the hosts’ score was 193 for the loss of four wickets.
Shakib Al Hasan notched up his team’s highest of 65. His 62-ball knock was ornamented with six fours and a sixer. It was Shakib’s 40th ODI-half century. Shakib was bowled out by Kemar Roach when Bangladesh’s total was 239 for the loss of seven wickets.
Riyad made 30 from 51 balls featuring three fours.
Oshane Thomas of West Indies was his team’s most successful bowler. He grabbed three wickets instead of 54 runs.
Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman got two wickets each conceding 57 and 63 runs respectively.
Besides, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza took one wicket each for 39 and 52 runs respectively.
