BD lose to SA in 1st Test

Bangladesh lost to South Africa (SA) by 220 runs in the first Test match on the fifth and final day at Kingsmead in Durban of South Africa on Monday.
Sent into bat first, South Africa piled up a massive total of 367 in the first innings on the second day (Friday).
In reply, Bangladesh scored a fighting total of 298 in their first innings on the third day (Saturday) thanks to opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who notched up a marathon 137 runs.
Later, South Africa were dismissed for 204 in their second innings on the fourth day (Sunday).
Bangladesh needed 274 runs to win in the second innings.
The tourists were shot out for 53 in their second innings on the fifth and final day (Monday).
Bangladesh resumed their second innings with the over-night score of 11 for the loss of three wickets.
Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim resumed their second innings with the over-night score of five runs and naught respectively.
But Mushfiqur Rahim failed to add any run in his account on the fifth and final day as the ace batter was trapped leg before wicket by Keshav Maharaj when the visitors’ total was 12 for the loss of four wickets.
Fourth-down Liton Das (2) was caught at the mid-on by Simon Harmer off Maharaj when Bangladesh’s score was 16 for the loss of five wickets.
Fifth-down Yasir Ali (5) was bowled out by Maharaj when the touring side’s total was 26 for the loss of six wickets.
Number-8 batter Mehidy Hasan Miraz (0) was caught at the slip by Keegan Petersen off Simon Harmer when Bangladesh’s total was 33 for the loss of seven wickets.
One-down Najmul Hossain Shato was stumped out by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne off Simon Harmer when the tourists’ score was 50 for the loss of eight wickets. Shanto knocked a sedate 26. He hit one four and one six in his 52-ball innings.
Eighth-down Khaled Ahmed (0) was caught at the mid-on by Lizaad Williams off Maharaj when the visitors’ total was 51 for the loss of nine wickets.
Number-9 batter Taskin Ahmed (14) was caught at the slip by Wiaan Mulder off Maharaj when Bangladesh’s score came to an end.
Keshav Maharaj captured seven wickets at the cost of 32 runs, while Simon Harmer grabbed three wickets in the space of 21 runs.
Keshav Maharaj was adjudged the Man of the Match.
