Bangladesh lost to England by eight wickets in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy at Kennington Oval in London, England on Thursday.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a healthy total of 305 for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Dashing opener Tamim Iqbal hit a splendid 128, while Mushfiqur Rahim made a chanceless 79.
Liam Plunkett captured four wickets at the cost of 59 runs.
Later, England reached the winning spot making 308 for the loss of two wickets when they had 16 balls to spare.
England had a poor start as the opener Jason Roy (1) was caught by Mustafizur Rahman off Mashrafe Bin Mortaza when the hosts’ total was just six.
Then Alex Hales and Joe Root added together 159 runs for the second wicket partnership before Hales was caught at the deep mid-wicket by substitute Sunzamul Islam off Sabbir Rahman when England’s total was 165 for the loss of two wickets.
Hales notched up a sparkle 95 from 86 balls including 11 fours and two sixes.
Joe Root hit 133, while Eoin Morgan made 75.
