Bangladesh leveled the two-Test series 1-1 as they thrashed Zimbabwe by 218 runs in the second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Thursday.
Winning the coin-session, Bangladesh decided to bat first and declared their first innings making 522 runs for the loss of seven wickets on the second day (Monday).
In reply, Zimbabwe scored 304 in their first innings on the third day (Tuesday).
Later, Bangladesh declared their second innings scoring 224 for the loss of six wickets on the fourth day (Wednesday) and set a target of 443 runs to win for Zimbabwe.
Bangladesh bowlers dominated over their opponents on the final and fifth day and Brendan Taylor was the only Zimbabwean batsman, who stood like a rock against Bangladesh bowling attack. Taylor remained unbeaten with 106 runs. He hit 10 fours in his 167-ball innings. Mehidy Hasan Miraz played the key role in demolishing Zimbabwe second innings and completed his worthy bowling spell as 18.1-5-38-5. Miraz captured eight wickets in two innings showing bright future.
Zimbabwe were bundled out for 224 in the second innings on the fifth and final day (Thursday).
Zimbabwe resumed their second innings with the overnight score of 76 for the loss of two wickets.
Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams resumed their second innings with the overnight score of four and two runs respectively.
Sean Williams could add additional 11 runs on the fifth day as he was cleanly bowled out by left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman when the tourists’ total was 99 for the loss of three wickets.
Third-down Sikandar Raza (12) was caught & bowled by Taijul Islam when the visitors’ score was 120 for the loss of four wickets.
Number-six batsman Pater Moor (13) was caught at the short leg by Imrul Kayes off Miraz when Zimbabwe’s total was 186 for the loss of five wickets.
Fifth-down Regis Chakabva (2) was run out by a joint-effort of Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim when the touring side’s score was 199 for the loss of six wickets.
Donald Tiripano (0) was caught at the short leg by Liton Das off Miraz when the visitors’ total was 201 for the loss of seven wickets.
Brendon Mavuta (0) was caught at the short leg by Taijul Islam off Miraz when Zimbabwe’s score 213 for the loss of eight wickets.
Kyle Jarvis (1) was caught at the mid-on by Khaled Ahmed off Miraz when Zimbabwe’s innings came to an end.
Injured Tendai Chatara could not bat due to injury.
Taijul bagged two wickets at the cost 93 runs.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 219 in the first innings. He was adjudged the Man of the Match. Consistent and prolific left-arm spinner Taijul Islam was adjudged the Player of the Series.
